What Time Do the Buses Depart?

Most of our trips depart from Copley Square in Boston at 7AM sharp. All groups must check in at the departure location at 6:30AM ready to go. Hotel checkout at the conclusion of the trip is at 8AM and our buses depart at 9:15AM sharp. For custom trips, departure times are adjustable as needed.

Can I Smoke in the Hotel? In the Clubs?

Smoking is permitted in your hotel room IF AND ONLY IF you have requested a smoking room. If you do smoke in a non-smoking room, the hotel will most likely keep your damage deposits. Smoking is not permitted in most clubs and bars, with the exception of cigars in some lounges. There are plenty of designated smoking areas outdoors at just about any venue you go to.

What are the Damage Deposits For?

Damage deposits are necessary to ensure both the buses and the hotels remain clean and damage free. Rather than requiring a credit card from every traveler to secure the buses and hotel, we collect cash deposits. The bus damage deposit is $10 per person ($30 per person for bachelor parties). The hotels require a credit or debit card for each room at check in to hold against damage. Your card is authorized for $250 and nothing is charged unless damage occurs. BOTH deposits are returned in full at the conclusion of the trip as long as there is no damage uncovered when checking out at the hotel and when arriving home on the bus. Please do your best to keep the buses and hotel rooms clean and damage free.

Montreal City FAQ

What is the Legal Drinking Age in Montreal?

The legal drinking age in Quebec is 18 years of age with proper identification.

Do I Need to Speak French?

NO. Although Montreal is one of the largest French speaking areas in the world outside of Paris, most people in Montreal are bilingual and speak both French and English, especially in all the Downtown bars, pubs and nightclubs. You will also find restaurant menus in both English and French for your convenience.

Can I Use American Currency in Montreal?

YES, but we recommend you don’t! While most establishments will accept American currency, many will charge you more or tack on an exchange fee depending on currency values. Not to worry, exchanging your money for Canadian is easy in Montreal. There are banks and currency exchanges everywhere downtown where you can exchange your money for Canadian for a small fee (usually around 2-3%). You can even use your U.S. ATM card to withdraw Canadian funds from your own bank account at any ATM in the city. Before using your ATM card, you should check with your bank so that you are not surprised later with high exchange fees, but in most cases, using your ATM card is your best bet.

Is Montreal an Expensive City to Visit?

Compared to other big cities across the Northeast, Montreal offers a great deal of value for your dollar. The average taxi ride is usually less than 5-10 bucks. Drinks are reasonably priced lower than Boston venues and most have insane drink specials and buy one get one free deals! Restaurants are also priced reasonably depending on what you are looking for. There are fast food places on every corner as well as a ton of bistros, delis and sit-down restaurants all over the city to accommodate any budget.

What is the Transportation Like in Montreal? Do I Need a Car?

Most of the Downtown area is accessible on foot or by a short affordable taxi ride. The public transit system (METRO) in Montreal is also incredibly convenient and cheap!. The Metro system is branched out across the entire downtown area making it a convenient alternative to renting a car or spending a ton of money on cab rides. The Montreal Metro is cheap and incredibly fast, unlike what you may be used to in Boston.

What is the Weather Like?

For the most part, weather in Montreal is much like that of New England. Winters do get a bit colder, but with the underground city and the high tech snow removal methods used by the city, Montreal is actually quite comfortable to be in during the winter. In fact, some of the best college party weekends are in November and New Year’s Eve in Montreal is a party like no other!

Is Montreal Safe?

Montreal is a very safe city! The crime rate is low and the people are generally welcoming and friendly. As with any major city there can be some shady areas, but these are mostly on the outskirts of the main strip. As long as you stay in the Downtown area, Montreal is perfectly safe to walk the streets at any time of the day or night without anything to worry about.

Can I Use My Cell Phone in Montreal?

YES, you can use your cell phone while in Montreal, but be warned that you will most likely be hit with roaming fees by your mobile carrier. Always check with your service provider BEFORE departing for your trip so you are not surprised later when your bill arrives. Text messages can also come with a higher fee but are generally lower priced than actual phone calls. Local calls are free from your hotel room. You can also take advantage of the free wireless internet at the hotel and send e-mail to people at home instead. If you do need to make some calls back to the U.S. while in Montreal, an international calling card may not be a bad idea to save some cash and avoid the hefty roaming charges on your cell phone.

Is There a Dress Code When We Go Out at Night?

Most of the popular nightclubs and bars are fairly casual, but you should still dress to impress no matter where you plan on spending the night. The higher end clubs always have dress codes and dressing down may leave you waiting outside. Sorry guys, but dress codes typically apply mostly to the men. Sneakers, ripped jeans, hats, shorts, open shoes, boots, athletic gear and the like are generally frowned upon. For the guys…We recommend wearing a collared shirt, dressy pants or fashionable jeans and dress shoes to avoid any problems at the door. For the ladies? Pretty much anything goes, but sexy/trendy is pretty standard for the ladies in Montreal.

Is Tipping Expected?

Absolutely! Tipping in Montreal is identical to that in Boston and is usually expected at restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs, taxis etc.. 15% on the low end is the norm. A dollar or two per drink is pretty standard at the bar as well and as a general rule anywhere you go…the more you tip the more you get! Don’t forget about all those Canadian coins in your pocket! They come in $1 and $2 denominations, making it easy to spend more money than you think since most U.S. coins are 25 cents and under.

What Time do the Bars and Clubs Close?

Just about all the bars, pubs, nightclubs and strip clubs close at 3AM! Last call usually comes at 2:50AM! Ready for After Hours? The after hours clubs in Montreal open late night and go until the break of dawn. Party until 10AM with some of the best national and international DJs in the world!
